Central to James Allison’s designs is the natural setting where the home will sit. Trees and
topography influence not only the position on the lot, but also the views of nature visible from
within the home converting a window into a picture frame for natural beauty.
James says, “I like to bring the outside into the living space.” It gives the home a grounded,
harmonious feel “to preserve trees adding to the beauty of the structure.”
His career began in 1978 designing and drawing homes and commercial building while working
with award winning designers Deneshou & Schrumm in Austin and Gustavo Arredondo in San
Antonio, Texas where James is from. He is a certified Professional Building Designer through
the American Institute of Building Design enabling him to design buildings anywhere in the
USA.
James’ homes and commercial projects are situated in the San Antonio, Austin and Texas Hill
Country areas and range from Mission style to Modern. Rather than strictly following trends,
James encourages clients to focus upon what works for them. Most of the designs presented on
this site are built homes.
Having also been a builder, James’ plans are appreciated by builders and subcontractors for their
buildability, meaning what’s on the plan is detailed and accurate eliminating confusion and
delays once the project is underway. James designs plans that builders love to build and in which
occupants thrive.
